THE GOLDEN GATE, an opera in two acts
by Conrad Cummings
Hosted By American Opera Projects and LivelyWorks, the opera has music by Conrad Cummings and a libretto from the novel-in-verse by Vikram Seth. Here is a small selection of the digital scenery I created for The Golden Gate.
Receiving rave reviews in the New York Times and Musical America, I was very heartened by the audience response, who actually noticed and commented on the evocative quality of light and the sense of place in the images. I was thrilled when one viewer said the images were reminiscent of Fairfield Porter and in Musical America, "The two acts both end with an invocation of the Golden Gate Bridge [via the scenics], and it is this expansion of vision from the particular to the universal that signals the opera as being a paean to the City on the Bay.
