Susan Shaw

Sans Souci 2

A body of work that addresses liquid space, works on paper with cast glass. This site specific installation investigates Louisiana’s relationship to water.  Three years ago, I was in Lafayette for the Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week and for the Festival International. It was a very hot day and the Sans Souci Fountain downtown had scores of children running in and out of the water. I was transfixed by the transformative power of the fountain spray and how it resonated with my earlier work, Praxis. The shifting light,  the amplified  impression of puppet revelry  gave the figures iconic definition. In the work images of the children at play fall off the prints, and move to the floor, where they are seen as puddles of hot cast glass
